Uh oh, did you rush out of the door and forget your lunch again? We have all been there! But don't you worry because UNF Dining Services has the perfect solution: The Osprey Café.
This is a hot spot on campus for a variety of fun and nutritious meals. You can find foods such as pizza, soup, waffles, and different desserts. There are also featured hot menu items every day with a grill and a sandwich bar where you can 'build your own' sandwich.
I will say the most vibrant part of the café would have to be the salad bar! It is HUGE and stocked full of salad toppings. There are a variety of “base” choices such as spinach, spring mix, and iceberg lettuce. The vegetable selection is endless with different options such as tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded carrots, chopped bell peppers, onions, and even artichoke hearts. This allows you to make a large, colorful salad full of many different vitamins and nutrients. You are sure to find something you LOVE!
In my opinion, the most impressive feature of the salad bar is the variety of different protein options (including meatless options) such as turkey, chicken, ham, tofu, eggs, beans, and quinoa (they even have bacon!) making the salad bar a place for everyone to get some healthy protein in. DYK? You can make your salad, bring it to the grill, and they'll add grilled chicken to it! Did someone say grilled chicken on Caesar? (One of my faves). Adding a quality protein will ensure your body is getting fuel to help you push through those busy days, help keep you fuller for longer, and do well on your tough exams. You can also add in some healthy fats by including sunflower seeds, olives, avocado slices or even adding olive oil on top of your salad as a dressing.
The salad bar has everything you need to fill you up plus it provides a balance of all three macronutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. As you can tell, the combinations are endless from the lettuce you chose, to the toppings, and right on to the dressing. I challenge you to try to make your salad look like a rainbow! Salads are so fun and versatile, you can always play around with them and find different combinations of flavors. This week, I was able to try a fresh barley salad with chopped veggies, cranberries, and edamame to top off my colorful salad. And guess what? There are really no rules for building a salad, just endless possibilities!
Stay healthy, Ospreys!
