Healthy Snacks at Outtakes

Hello Ospreys! It is about that time of year when projects, papers, and assignments start piling up. When life gets hectic, it can be hard to plan out meals or even prep foods. Luckily as a UNF student, you have access to two convenience stores that offer plenty of healthy, on-the-go options… Outtakes!

If you are hungry, it can be tempting to grab the sweets and other options that might not fuel you as well throughout those long lectures and exams. When looking for a snack, it is important to keep in mind four things: protein, fiber, fat, and complex carbs. Snacks that are a combination of these components will provide sustained energy to help power you until your next meal and will not lead to a crash of energy. Here are some of the very best snack options Outtakes has to offer!

1) Protein bars and granola bars

One of the biggest selections at Outtakes is their protein, energy, and granola bars section. They offer protein-packed Quest bars, complex carb-rich Clif bars, and many others. When picking from this section, make sure to check the ingredient list. Try to go for bars that include a good amount of protein, carbohydrates from complex sources (like whole grains), and a punch of fiber for added satiety. My personal favorites are the blueberry muffin Quest bar and Sierra Trail Clif bar. To round out this snack and fill you up even more, you can also grab a cup of their pre-cut fruit, a banana, or an apple.

2) On-the-Go Sections

In the two locations on campus, Outtakes has refrigerated sections with all kinds of healthy goodies on display. Ranging from full meals to small snacks, there is an option for every hunger level and craving. In addition, this section hosts many yummy vegan and vegetarian options! If you are in the mood for a quick snack, you can grab hard-boiled eggs, hummus and cracker pretzel packs, pre-cut fruit, and fruit and veggie snack boxes. As a bonus, the fruit and veggie snack boxes often come with chicken salad or hummus to provide extra protein and fat. These snack boxes are a personal favorite because you can get a variety of textures, a healthy serving of veggies and fruit, and a satisfying serving of protein and fat. That makes a great snack in my book!
