Ok, Ospreys! It’s time to wear your purple as we celebrate NEDAW in UNF style! What is NEDAW, you ask? NEDAW stands for National Eating Disorder Awareness Week and this year it's from February 26-March 4. The purpose of NEDAW is to promote a positive body image along with building healthy relationships with food and exercise. NEDAW is all about self-love and self care. So, we encourage you to devote this week to loving yourself unconditionally!

Being a college student in a new environment can be scary. We are all at a point in our lives where change is constantly happening whether it be a new home, new friends, a new job, new responsibilities (#adulting), or being on our own for the first time. Sometimes we get out of balance and forget to give ourselves some love. We are not defined by a number … not by a scale or a test, not how much we can weightlift, not how many miles we can run, and not by the size of jeans we wear. UNF provides services to help if you’re feeling down in the dumps, if you need some encouragement, or if you may know someone that needs a positive support system. Please explore the UNF Counseling center if you ever need to talk to someone or have any concerns.

We also have a Registered Dietitian that works within the counseling center, if you have any concerns about your nutrition and body image. We also have two Registered Dietitians in the Wellness Center that can talk to you about a healthy diet or answer any questions you have about fueling your body correctly and what it needs. Lastly, our registered dietitian for UNF Dining Services, Yemila Lowry, can help you navigate on-campus eating and make healthier options on campus to enhance your total dining experience! The UNF Department of Recreation and Wellness (RecWell) is promoting positive mental health to several of events during NEDAW that you don’t want to miss! Starting on Tuesday, February 27th at 7PM in the Student Union: West Room 3805 is the Escalation Workshop. This is a film-based discussion about relationship abuse, how to recognize when it’s happening, and identify any warning signs. This will be an eye-opening experience and a great event to raise awareness. It’s from 7-8:30pm with a professional facilitator leading the event.

Be sure to walk through the Student Union plaza the next day for LOVE FEST! RecWell will be spreading the love by celebrating body positivity and healthy relationships during Market Day, February 28 from 10am until 2pm. There will be a photo booth, games, scale smashing, and prizes. Have a good time, laugh, take selfies, and smash some things!

And last, but not least, on Thursday March 1st at 7PM is UNF’s annual Looks Have No Limits Fashion Show. This will be a heartfelt event to celebrate self-love, and beautiful in every dimension. The fashion show will feature a live DJ and a fantastic guest speaker from the Timberline Knolls eating disorder clinic. So come on out to the Student Wellness Complex, get inspired, and have a great time!

Remember, try not to get caught up in day to day life and forget to take care of the most important person in your life—you! It may be easier said than done sometimes, but everyone deserves a little self-care and love.
